River Cottage...

I don't often recommend television programmes but I do enjoy watching River Cottage. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's philosophy seems to be one of plain, homegrown English food which I think is admirable. I'm sure Tolkien would too. The series has a website. I may actually go to their Spring Food Fair in May of next year as it has been a while since I have been to the West Country - ten years, in fact.

  1. This is on Channel 4, right? Perhaps I should acquire a satellite receiver after all. I decided against it a few months ago, because I barely watch any television. The occasional cooking show or documentary being the exception.

I have a great interest in the sort of food you describe, which began with reading The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and with my grandmother's cooking.

    1. Yes, Channel 4. I too seldom watch television. Nowadays, I only watch University Challenge on Monday evenings, River Cottage, the odd nature or history documentary, the news (but only in passing), and DVD's.

    2. Flemish quiz programmes tend to focus on pop culture and celebrity humour, so I avoid those usually. I prefer newspapers over the news, as I can skip every news article that I do not care about. It saves up a lot of time.

I do watch a lot of DVD's, but my collection keeps shrinking. Especially after having opened my eyes to the decadence of the Peter Jackson films, that freed up a lot of shelf space. I find myself less tolerant of historical inaccuracies in films as well.
