Clericalism is one of the greatest evils in Christianity and certainly wrought much violence in the Latin West which it will be a miracle to undo.

"Evensong?!? That's Church of England! We have low Mass!" Certainly not in the ..."Typical parish"? Certainly not in the "OF" or "EF" parishes. The local FSSP church near me does Vespers once a week, but you have to know ow to navigate the damned thing going in. Only people who spent time in a monastic community or seminary attend and no effort is made to generate interest among the average layman. It's treated like yet another devotion.

In contrast, every Eastern church I've attended (Catholic and Orthodox) does weekday office at least once a week. Also, the Ordinariates in Texas do weekday Morning Prayer, Noon Prayer, Evensong, and even Choral Mattins on Sunday. Traditionalists could learn a thing or two.Ecclesial Vigilantehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17070187926547373245noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192580971664762668.post-76759834903480361032014-12-08T23:45:06.322+00:002014-12-08T23:45:06.322+00:00It is well within the means of any parish to celeb...It is well within the means of any parish to celebrate the Liturgia Horarum; but can you imagine any typical parish doing so? The Divine Office is essentially common prayer and ought not to be recited privately. If the Office fulfilled the spiritual needs of the people then there'd be no need for spurious Marian apparitions, medals and such devotions.

I'm afraid I do not have much or indeed any sympathy for Marcel Lefebvre, who strikes me as having been an ignorant and tyrannical man; an impression supported by two friends of mine who knew him.Patrick Sheridanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07995907911415177074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8192580971664762668.post-38820275342229459362014-12-08T23:22:36.372+00:002014-12-08T23:22:36.372+00:00The sentiments expressed in this post are beautifu...The sentiments expressed in this post are beautiful. I would wish that Roman Catholics prayed even the Liturgy of the Hours if it caused them to pray some form of Divine Worship and forget their medals, wools, and trinkets even temporarily.

I myself would not bash anyone for opposing a human authority in the Church under many circumstances (hence my overall sympathy to Abp. Lefebvre). Where conservative/neocon Catholics and I differ is that they go after radical liberals for disobedience, while I oppose the Kasper types because they are heterodox.Ecclesial Vigilantehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17070187926547373245noreply@blogger.com
