  1. Only BEGINNING on Great and Holy Wednesday?

What about Willow Sunday? What about the Bridegroom Matins of Great and Holy Monday and Tuesday?

I just took a screenshot of the Three Days. Indeed, Willow Sunday was observed in green and the foliage was blessed at the end. A friend and I were reflecting the other day about the difference between Roman and Byzantine Palm Sunday. With the ceremonies of St Matthew's Passion brought forward to Palm Sunday, this takes away somewhat from the festal character of Christ's entry into Jerusalem and becomes an anticipation of the Passion. The Passion gospels should really be sung, all of them, at Mattins.

    1. What about at the Hours? The Byzantines have them at the Royal Hours and there is a parallel practice in the Bobbio Missal.

  3. In my student days (in the 80s) I used to go there on 3rd Saturdays as it was the only place one could hear the AV and Coverdale psalms! Glad to hear they are going strong.

    1. I first went there when I was 17 or 18. I remember wandering around Ennismore Gardens because I couldn't find it, and then did. I was carrying a 1962 missal, as I recall, and two women gave me a funny look. An Akathist was being sung and there were six priests in attendance. Beyond that I was too ignorant of Byzantine liturgy to appreciate more. I enjoyed it, but only stayed for about an hour, and then like a dog eating its own vomit, I simply went back to Traddieland.

How different would these ten years have been if I'd been received then? Who knows but ten years ago my faith in Rome was unbreakable.
